With approximately 30,000 presentations being seen annually, the department is considered a Regional Resource Centre, taking referrals from across the region. With an admission rate of 20%, there is a 30% paediatric load and due to there being no ICU or Mental Health Unit, additional skills are required to manage critical care for these patients.
