Enjoy the warm weather and relaxed lifestyle of the NSW Northern Rivers whilst making a big difference in the community. Manage the region's community mental health and lead the service forward.
- Senior Community Psychiatrist for a Regional Role
- Managerial Allowance and Professional Development
- Opportunity to make a big difference in a regional community.
The position looks after all sides of community psychiatry, mainly general adult, but may require support of the Youth and Family team or the Older persons team. The position is seen to be key to development of the service, in a very disadvantaged part of regional Australia, with an unemployment rate of 9% and almost 50% of the population leaving school by year ten. The role works closely alongside the service manager in developing capacity within the team, providing clinical leadership and providing direct clinical care. The service is moving more towards a Flexible Assertive Treatment model of care, and there is a close relationship with the inpatient team who look after the patients of the Clarence Valley. The psychiatrist will be expected to forge links with the nearby base hospital and general practice to better meet the needs of the community. There is the option for developing innovate models of care such as hospital in the home, in reach to medical wards, in reach to the Aboriginal Medical Service, and consultation with the local MH advocacy group “My Healthy Clarence”. Given the responsibilities, this would be payed as a senior staff specialist with level one managerial allowance.
