In this community role, you will have the chance to lead and work autonomously. You will be looking after all sides of Community Psychiatry, mainly General Adult, but may require support of the Youth and Family Team or the Older Persons Team. You will be working closely alongside the service manager in developing capacity with the team, providing clinical leadership and providing direct clinical care. The service is moving towards a Flexible Assertive Treatment model of care and there is a close relationship with the inpatient team who look after the patients of the Clarence Valley. The psychiatrist will be expected to forge links with the nearby base hospital and general practice to better meet the needs of the community.
There is the option for developing innovate models of care such as hospital in the home, in reach to medical wards, in reach to the Aboriginal Medical Service, and consultation with the local MH advocacy group “My Healthy Clarence”. Given the responsibilities, this would be payed as a senior staff specialist with level one managerial allowance.
This hospital is a level 3/4 base hospital, which provides care to over 12,500 patients every year. The hospital undertakes over 3,300 surgical procedures and sees over 24,700 Emergency attendances annually. The Mental Health Service is divided into acute care and continuing care, with a small Older Persons team, and Youth and Family team. The service is expertly lead by an onsite manager who is actively undergoing development. The Mental Health team at this hospital is known for being welcoming, talented and passionate about helping their local community.
The city is located 40km from the coast and has an extremely beautiful centre characterised by wide streets and elegant Victorian buildings. It is known for its jacaranda trees, heritage buildings, sporting and cultural facilities. With a vibrant events calendar of exhibitions, markets, shows and sports throughout the year, you’ll never be short of something to do.
The city has a good range of quality properties for purchase and rent and offers a range of educational institutions. In your free time enjoy exploring one of the many pristine beaches, high dunes, paperbark lagoons or freshwater creeks or head off on some of the best coastal walking tracks. With more than 60 kilometres of coastline, national parks, world heritage rainforest, vibrant towns and villages and loads of country drives there really is something for the whole family in this region.

|UK/Ireland||Must hold MRCPsych / FRCPsych plus UK Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) and have been practicing as a Consultant for 3 years or more|
|USA||Must hold Certificate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and have been practicing as a Consultant for 3 years or more.|
|Canada||Must hold Fellowship in Psychiatry or Certificate in Psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and have been practicing as a Consultant for 3 years or more.|
Other qualifications can of course be assessed on a case-by-case basis. For those unable to work at Consultant level, there are multiple opportunities to take advantage of at Senior Medical Officer and Registrar level.
