You will be required to commit to an on-call frequency of 1 in 6 and you will conduct 3 outpatient clinics per week. Any sub-specialty may be accommodated however due to the size of the hospital, this is a true generalist role and majority of your time will be spent in General Medicine.

The Hospital

Medical services include general medicine with resident sub-specialty interests in gastroenterology, rheumatology and endocrinology. The medical ward has 24 beds and visiting specialist clinics are also provided in neurology, cardiology, renal medicine and dermatology.

Surgical services include both elective services and a 24-hour district trauma service supported by 24-hour specialist cover in general surgery, orthopaedics and gynaecology. Ophthalmology, ORL/ENT, oral and dental surgery also is provided, as are visiting oncology services and mental health and addiction services. Annually the hospital sees 71,000 outpatient attendances & 16,000 emergency department attendances.

The Location
Breathtaking is a word commonly used to describe this city and its surroundings. Over 42,000 residents enjoy life in this South Island city where moderately-priced real estate, good medical services, excellent educational facilities, an abundance of sporting and recreational facilities and a friendly community all contribute to make it a great place to live. The city is conveniently located close to snow-capped mountains, the coast and many inland lakes where sailing, water skiing, boating, windsurfing and fishing are popular pastimes.

Essential Criteria
To be successful in applying for this position you must be eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. Unless you are a native English speaker you must also meet the English language proficiency requirements. If you are unsure if you meet the selection criteria please forward a copy of your most recent resume and I will assess your eligibility and will advise you of your options.

Enjoy a greater work/life balance with a low on call frequency and live in a city surrounded by natural beauty.
