The Opportunity In response to growth, this health service is seeking to appoint an Emergency Medicine Specialist to join the team in its Emergency Department. Present senior staff include the Director of Emergency Medicine, ten Senior House Officers and three HMOs and seven Interns. In this role, the Specialist will provide clinical leadership over the delivery of the service in partnership with the NUM and specialist emergency medical care. In addition, you will be involved in supervising Registrars and Junior Medical Officers and in teaching both junior doctors and medical students. The role will be required to provide some services out of hours, including some weekends.  The Health Service Servicing an immediate population of 107,000, this modern, 280-bed hospital consists of four theatres, in-house MRI and CT services, and a state-of-the-art clinical skills laboratory. The Health Service is the main referral centre for the region. Services include a 24-hour Emergency Department, Surgery, Medical Services, Women?s and Children?s Services, Rehabilitation and Palliative care, Mental Health, Outpatients, and community-based health programs. It has 190 acute beds, including an eight-bed critical care unit and a 30-bed rehabilitation unit. Its facilities include three operating theatres, a day procedure unit and an endoscopy suite. Last year it treated  more than 35,000 emergency presentations. Due to the area's aging population, 40% of acute services are provided to those aged 65 and over.
