You will be well supported in your role, by the Clinical Director, 9 FTE Emergency Specialists/Senior Medical Officers, 18 RMOs, 2 Nurse Practitioners and 3 Clinical Nurse Specialists. Primarily, you will provide high quality, timely, efficient and compassionate patient-centred care to all patients presenting to the Emergency Department. You will also be involved in the supervision and hands-on training for RMOs and ACEM trainees, as well as supporting and collaborating with the ED Nursing team.
You will be joining a large 330-bed regional hospital servicing a growing population of more than 180,000. This includes an urban population as well as rural community. The Emergency Department itself sees a diverse case mix with 55,000 presentations per annum, with a 21% paediatric caseload. The department is accredited for 12 months of advanced training with ACEM and has provisional and advanced training positions for Registrars.
This harbour city makes the ideal base, central to Auckland, Rotorua and Hamilton, and a 15-minute drive from one of New Zealand’s most popular and stunning beach, the views of which you can take in from the top of an extinct volcano offering 360 degree views. Head downtown and the modern waterfront is always buzzing, home to a variety of cafes, restaurants, pubs and nightclubs. Fishing, sailing, diving and dolphin tours are easy to arrange, and there are plenty of local beauty spots to check out including stunning falls or forests.
You must be a Fellow of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM) or hold an equivalent Specialist qualification in Emergency Medicine and be eligible to apply for Vocational registration as an Emergency Medicine Physician in New Zealand.
