As an Emergency Medicine Consultant you will primarily be responsible for the provision of high quality clinical care to the patients presenting to the Emergency Department. Along with managing your own patients you will also actively take part in the supervision and teaching of registrars, junior doctors and students and lead by quality example. You will join a cohesive team where you will show a strong interest in the future of the department and have a positive input in to its development. The Director is well regarded by the team, who are welcoming and friendly. The VIC award rate has increased recently so you will earn an attractive remuneration with a roster that is well balanced and non-clinical time strongly supported. Opportunities for casual teaching with Universities also available.
This public hospital offers a comprehensive range of specialist care across key medical and healthcare disciplines, including acute and sub-acute care, residential aged care, community care, psychiatric services and rehabilitation services. Over $450 million has been allocated to the expansion of services, which will create a new Emergency Department, a modernised acute mental health facility, an intensive care unit, a women and children's hub, an expanded critical care 'hot floor' and at least an extra 100 inpatient beds. As for the Emergency Department itself, it has seen strong growth in recent years with patient attendances now around 60,000 per year. This is reflected in an admission rate that is also climbing (currently 26-27%). Paediatric presentations account for approximately 28% of attendances. Also in recent years the ED has expanded with completion of separate Fast Track area and also SSU. Accredited with the ACEM for 12 months of advanced training, there are a number of Emergency Department certificate and diploma candidates working within the health service.

To be eligible for this position you must hold Fellowship with the Australian College of Emergency Medicine as well as AHPRA General Specialist Registration, alternatively you will be eligible for specialist registration with experience from a comparable health care system.
