The Position

Wavelength are exclusively recruiting for a number of Emergency Medicine Consultant roles in a dynamic department, in Launceston, Tasmania. This is an exceptional opportunity to work with an innovative and supportive team and in a location that supports a true work/life balance.

Roles offer excellent remuneration packages – including relocation assistance, vehicle allowance, private patient plan and generous professional development.

Providing specialist medical care to all attending patients, you will report to the Director of Emergency Medicine whilst managing registrars, junior staff and undergraduates in a supervisory and clinical manner. You will make sure the department runs to the highest of standards and that the clinical care of patients is supported via planning, supervising and arranging appropriate clinical investigations.

With a complete team consisting of 11.5 FACEMS, 12 registrars, 13 junior and 2 other medical staff, it is also supported by very good and committed nursing staff which is one of the reasons it is considered such a great place to work. You will also find that participation in research is actively encouraged as well as involvement in quality improvement activities.

The Hospital
This hospital is a major referral facility that provides general and specialist health services to a population of about 250,000 people. The Emergency Department itself receives on average 45,000 cases a year with all types of patient presentations including major trauma and 20% paediatric cases. As it is an accredited teaching hospital there is a strong focus on teaching and research and an opportunity to be involved with both. This is strengthened by the hospitals links with the local University.

In terms of layout, with redevelopments happening as recently as 4 years ago, the facilities are modern and functional and the staff areas are excellent. The newly appointed Director of Emergency Medicine is really helping steer the department to a bright future.

The Location
In Tasmania you will enjoy a relaxed and enviable lifestyle where a flourishing café culture comes hand in hand with a welcoming community and an amazing array of outdoor pursuits. Whether you prefer to sample the wonderful local wine and food, explore the rich history of the region or enjoy the surrounding rugged mountains and dramatic coastlines, Tasmania offers it all on your doorstep.

Just an hour’s flight from Melbourne, this city itself offers great career and lifestyle advantages. Housing is affordable and the education system is of a high quality with access to a range of schools, colleges and the University of Tasmania. There are great amenities such as shopping and entertainment venues, restaurants, cafes and other eateries.
