The Position

This Director/Head of Department role is offered on a fixed-term basis for up to three years and will involve JMO and student teaching participation, involvement in continuing medical education, peer review and quality improvement. You will have the opportunity to develop niche skills like teaching, simulation, ultrasound, process redesign and getting involvement in improvement projects. Further, you will have plenty of time to practise procedural skills, joining a well supported department with an excellent core of nursing staff, and staff specialists that enjoy the challenges of supervising juniors and managing their own patients independently. This is the ideal opportunity to develop your management skills and expand your role beyond solely clinical care. You will work 4 x 10 hour shifts and experience a mix of acuity, pathology and paediatric cases. 

The Hospital

This regional hospital has a capacity of more than 200 beds and provides medical, surgical, orthopaedic, paediatric, obstetrics and gynaecology, emergency and mental health services to a large and diverse region. The Emergency Department itself sees approximately 40,000 patients per annum, with an admission rate of 20% and a 25% paediatric case mix. You will also experience complex cases in geriatric and Aboriginal patients. Additionally, this service refers into another hospital, helping you develop strong ties with another department in clinical and academic areas.

Essential Criteria

You will have Fellowship of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine and hold  Specialist registration with the Australian Medical Board (AHPRA)
