A challenging opportunity in a remote location that can still offer the amenities of most cities as well as fantastic outdoor activities and social events
- Busiest retrieval base in Australia
- Salary starting from $445k
- Prior Director experience is not essential
As Director of the Retrieval service, you will oversee the provision of high quality critical care to patients of all ages in the prehospital setting. Your duties will be split 50:50 between administrative and clinical tasks. Clinical duties are approximately .75 in retrieval and .25 in the base hospital. You will be responsible for a number of projects including formalising SOPs, improving recruitment and retention, consolidating database and KPI reporting and contributing to national retrieval developments. On offer is a 12-month contract with a view to extend.
You will be joining a very busy retrieval service, currently employing approximately 4 FTE Specialists and 8 FTE Registrars. The 200-bed facility, with a busy mixed Emergency Department sees 50,000 presentations annually and is experiencing a growth phase with a relatively high admission rate of 30% (80% Indigenous). You will see some of the most interesting and varied medicine in Australia, with 110 medically escorted retrievals per month, a 26% critical intervention rate, an 18% paediatric case load and 15% inter-hospital transfers. You’ll be joining a positive and collaborative culture in an engaging service with good retention. You will be well supported with a $1.6million increase in budget to add an extra tier of rostering.
You will be located in a regional town in Australia’s Northern Territory, connected to Darwin and Adelaide by a major sealed highway. You will also find direct flights to the capital cities. This region is a popular getaway for discovering outback Australia and exploring the Red Centre and beautiful mountain ranges. There are plenty of trails, canyons, ranges and waterholes to discover. You will have access to a variety of sports grounds as well as other landscapes for sporting activities including mountain biking or climbing.
You will enjoy an enviable slower pace of life and friendly community feel. You can live a very active outdoor lifestyle with fantastic weather most of the year and surprisingly you will find more festivals, markets and events in your calendar than you would in many cities. Being the service centre for a vast area, you will find all the shops and services that you’d expect from a much larger city.
Prior Director experience is not essential but applicants must have 5 years relevant post graduate experience, with at least 6 months experience as a Senior Retrieval Registrar/Staff Specialist. You must have successfully completed a recognised specialist training program and hold or be eligible to hold Specialist registration with the Australian Medical Board (AHPRA).
