The Position

As a Staff Specialist in Psychiatry you will provide your expertise to a vast region covering a remote 500km radius. This will require you to fly across the region as well as to provide telehealth support. You will be working fairly independently, managing your own case load with support from senior clinicians, Nursing and Allied Health professionals in a multidisciplinary team. You will also benefit from the guidance of the Clinical Director of Mental Health who you will report into. The cases will be interesting and challenging, with a large Indigenous population and community based setting in a spread out and vast region. Although working in a General Adult setting, Addiction experience will be highly beneficial and due to there being no inpatient unit, all admitted patients are referred to a tertiary care hospital through the Emergency Department.

Working hours will be Monday to Friday and on-call (Monday to Monday) every third week. On-call duties involve assessing patients in the ED, taking phone calls and teleconferences. In addition to a generous salary you will earn a rural and remote allowance ($32,000 per year paid bi-annually) as well as accommodation and transport provided.

The Hospital

This regional hospital has a total of 80 beds and offers primary, secondary and community health services in addition to specialist services such as anaesthetics, paediatrics, psychiatry, surgery and obstetrics & gynaecology. The hospital also hosts a range of clinics in speciality and sub-specialty services and the Royal Flying Doctor Service base provides rural retrievals and transfers. Further, you will be welcomed by a great team and work climate with Specialists keen to socialise in this relaxed and picturesque town.
