The Position

As a Senior Specialist in Forensic Psychiatry, you will be joining a service focussed on delivering high quality, effective and person-centred care. You will provide cover to a Mental Health Inpatient Unit, an Extended Care Unit for long-term forensic rehabilitation, community programs as well as forensic mental health services at the nearby prison and a juvenile facility. You will enjoy a diverse workload, working as a team to provide cover across all settings and with excellent Registrar support in all areas other than the community. You will only be required to work on-call 1 in 30 (full-time) and opportunities for part-time arrangements (ideally not below 0.6FTE) can be considered.

With strong research links maintained with the ANU, University of Canberra and Australian Catholic University, you will benefit from a fully equipped medical library on site and may also be considered for a conjoint position in ANU at an academic level. If you are interstate or overseas, you will also benefit from a relocation allowance up to $51,000.

The hospital that you will be working with provides specialised and acute care to the city and surrounding region. The hospital is also a principal university teaching hospital, affiliated with world class universities and research institutions.

In this role you will work with the Mental Health, Justice Health and Alcohol & Drug Services (MHJHADS) which provides health services directly and through partnerships with community organisations. The services provided range from prevention and treatment to recovery, maintenance and harm minimisation. Consumer and carer participation is encouraged in all aspects of service planning and delivery. The Division works in partnership with consumers, carers and a range of government and non-government service providers to ensure the best possible outcomes for clients.

Essential Criteria

Australia/NZ: Must hold FRANZCP and be eligible for Specialist registration with AHPRA.

UK/Ireland: Must hold MRCPsych / FRCPsych plus UK Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) and have been practicing as a Consultant for 3 years or more.

USA: Must hold Certificate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and have been practicing as a Consultant for 3 years or more.

Canada: Must hold Fellowship in Psychiatry or Certificate in Psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and have been practicing as a Consultant for 3 years or more.

Other qualifications can of course be assessed on a case-by-case basis. For those unable to work at Consultant level, there are multiple opportunities to take advantage of at Senior Medical Officer and Registrar level.
