The Position

As a Service Medical Registrar, you will provide support to this private hospital primarily within a 40-bed acute care medical ward as well as other departments including a 10-bed palliative care unit and 10-bed maternity ward. You may be expected to cover predominately evening and night shifts (4pm-11pm or 11pm-8am), benefiting from attractive penalty rates. There may also be opportunity to work daytime hours within the partnering public hospital. During night shifts, Consultant on-call cover will be available as well as cover from a full nursing team and the team in the Emergency Department.

There is some scope for flexibility regarding the roster pattern with the potential to be guided by your preferences where possible. Weekend and public holiday cover will be required as well, where the appropriate penalty rates will be earned. Along with a generous salary there is an attractive overall package available including some support towards relocation costs and accommodation assistance. If you require visa support, this hospital can sponsor via the Medium-Term stream in order to keep the pathway for Permanent Residency (PR) open at a later stage. There is also the potential for the hospital to provide employer sponsored PR in the future if a longer term commitment can be provided.

The Hospital

You will be joining one of Western Australia’s finest private hospitals, with over 140 beds and more than 330 highly qualified medical practitioners. The facility provides services across a variety of medical and surgical admissions and palliative care, as well as allied health and community-based services. Not only will you be joining a leading provider of private care in the south west of WA but also the broader health network. This service operates under a unique public-private partnership with 19 hospitals located across Western Australia, Victoria and New South Wales.

The Location

You will be situated south of Perth in a port city renowned for its bottlenose dolphins, calm waters and parklands rich with mangroves and birdlife. There is plenty to explore in the local area, including a variety of independent shops and boutiques in hidden old warehouses and side streets, restaurants and small bars, as well as a strong arts and music scene. Bike hire is a great way to explore the city, touring a nature reserve before heading back into the CBD along the beach. On one side of the CBD you will discover one of Australia’s few north-facing beaches for a serene bay popular amongst families, as well as the ideal destination for a day of sailing. On the other side of the city, you’ll find a beach perfect for body boarding and enjoying the surf.

Along with being able to immerse yourself in Australia’s Indigenous Heritage with local tour guides who provide in-depth outings, as a local you will also experience the fresh produce at the regular farmers markets that many Perth residents travel to enjoy. Much of the produce is sourced from surrounding farms, mostly organic and exploding with flavour.

Overall this regional city provides all of the amenities for day-to-day family life including a variety of schooling options and being situated an easy drive to Perth there is also good access to the international airport.

Essential Criteria

You will be PGY4+ and have experience in acute medical care or general medicine on-call work. Experience in cardiology is also desirable. A minimum 12 month commitment is required and you must hold registration or be eligible to apply for registration with the Australian Medical Board (AHPRA). Those who have completed both parts of the AMC exams and are eligible for registration via the Standard Pathway are encouraged to apply.
