The Position

Wavelength is seeking a Senior Staff Specialist / Staff Specialist Paediatrician to take on an exciting role in regional Queensland. You will be taking on a leadership role in an established and supportive team and will be responsible for delivering high quality specialist services to the local community. You will have excellent communication skills and a keen interest in sharing your knowledge as you will take an active role in training and supervising surgical trainees, colleagues and allied health care professionals.

The Hospital

This state of the art hospital offers a wide range of medical services to a growing population of approximately 230,000. The Hospital has 305 beds and is the main referral hospital for Central QLD. The hospitals modern, 24 hour Emergency Department sees approximately 48,000 presentations per annum, with a total of 38,991 patients admitted to the Hospital for medical services.

Specialist Medical Services include Emergency Medicine, General Medicine, Cardiology, Renal Medicine, Palliative Care, Psychiatry, Rehabilitation, Geriatric Medicine, Paediatrics, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Urology, ENT, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Intensive Care and Anaesthetics.

The hospital houses a Level 4 Special Care Nursery which has C.P.A.P. and ventilator capabilities. The hospital also has a busy Paediatric outpatient’s department, reviewing a wide variety of paediatric conditions. Outreach clinics are undertaken in two towns within the region, including an Aboriginal Community. Plans are currently underway to expand the hospitals outreach services. The Paediatric Department consists of 1 Clinical Director, 5 FTE Staff Paediatricians (Consultants), 4 Registrars, 4 Principal House Officers, 2 Resident Medical Officer and 2 Interns.

The Location

Situated half way between Brisbane and Townsville, this town is a short drive to the pristine beaches and national parklands of Queensland. The town has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and offers plenty of activities to keep you and your family entertained; including museums, botanical gardens, a crocodile farm and a local zoo. The beach is perfect for snorkeling, scuba diving and boating. Locally there are four shopping centres with plenty of alfresco dining options for you to enjoy the tropical climate. The region is well served by both private and public schools, including several for boarders, alongside being easily accessible via all modes of transport.

Essential Criteria

The successful candidate will be a Fellow with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and hold specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
