You will be joining the largest provider of Mental Health Services in New Zealand, serving a catchment population of approximately 600,000. You will provide your expertise within the Adult Inpatient Unit, and also have the opportunity to be involved in service development, service planning and quality improvement initiatives. As a Consultant, one of your core functions will involve the teaching and supervision of junior doctors/students and providing your expertise and clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team. The current team is made up of two full-time Psychiatrists and two full-time Registrars and House Officers, providing strong colleague support with peer review groups and generous Continuing Medical Education (CME) and an on-call roster of 1:20.
This Mental Health service provides a comprehensive range of services with a culturally aware and responsive focus, partially to their Indigenous Maori population. Services include community based and inpatient medical managed withdrawal (voluntary and compulsory), counselling, opioid treatment, youth, co-existing problems, pregnancy and parenting, prisons and probation etc.
