The Opportunity

Cooma Hospital and Health Service is a 41-bed facility with renal and oncology outpatient services onsite with 24-hour Accident and Emergency.

There is an exciting opportunity for a GP Procedural Anaesthetist to provide a high level of clinical care to patients and participate in the on-call roster. You will also assist in the provision of direction, service planning and clinical governance to the Anaesthetic Team, Pre-Admission Clinic and the High Dependency Unit. You will require a well-rounded skillset as you will be seeing patients with a variety of different health concerns. This is a fantastic opportunity to further your GP career and help this small but essential hospital in servicing the community.

Visiting medical officers in this facility are required to participate in service and policy development as well as an involvement with education, training and quality projects activities. The Location

Set among rolling plains, legendary rivers and snow-covered peaks, Cooma is the largest town in the Snowy Mountains region and is the gateway to the state’s alpine area. It is only an hour’s drive to Canberra and the ACT.

There is skiing in winter and golf, tennis, squash, basketball and netball in summer, to name just a few. Bushwalking and mountain biking in the wilderness are exhilarating too, with Kosciuszko National Park the home of Australia’s highest peak. Between Cooma and the sparkling Sapphire Coast is Wadbilliga National Park, where the Cascades walking track leads to the tumbling Tuross River.

Essential Criteria

Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist General Practitioner

Evidence of accreditation with the Joint Consultative Committee Anaesthesia (Australia), together with a Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, or Fellowship of Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine, or specialist qualifications deemed equivalent.

Previous experience in Emergency Medicine, General Practice, Adult Internal Medicine, Paediatrics or Rural Medicine an advantage.
