As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will be responsible for the provision of clinical assessment and psychiatric treatment for adults and seniors across this catchment population but primarily based in the main mental health clinic. Services are delivered across the region through an extensive video conferencing network. Some travel and overnight stays will be required to outer regions on a fortnightly basis but generally you will work usual business hours of 8:30am to 5pm.
You will see 2 new cases per day on average, with 4-6 follow-up appointments, depending on the complexity. Your experience and expertise will be utilised in providing clinical leadership, advice, consultation, liaison and support to the General Practitioners, health care professionals, as well as other providers and carers. You will benefit from a supportive team and take part in multidisciplinary team meetings on a weekly basis. There are also 3 Clinical Psychologists working across the service and 5 senior clinicians who do thorough initial assessments as part of their Triage role and sit in on psychiatric assessments, assisting with necessary paperwork. In addition to generous salary packaging arrangements you will benefit from professional development opportunities and other professional and location based allowances. On offer is a fixed full-time appointment for up to 5 years, with requests for part-time arrangements also considered.
Current health services in this region include emergency care, acute and subacute inpatient care, residential and community aged care services, mental health and population health including Aboriginal health, allied health, community health, health promotion and public health services. The Mental Health Service itself has a widely dispersed population of 78,000, with major service centres at 4 locations. You will be primarily based in the region’s main mental health clinic.
Generally, you will be working a 1.5 hour drive from Perth in a regional community combining strong economies and relaxed lifestyles. With a largely agricultural economy, the region contains numerous small farming communities. The towns are well-equipped with modern sporting facilities, extensive education and health facilities, and offers affordable housing options. Across this beautiful region you will enjoy wide open spaces, vast natural surroundings and star-filled night skies.
You must hold FRANZCP and be eligible for Specialist registration with AHPRA
