The Position

As a Consultant Psychiatrist or Senior Medical Officer in Adult Psychiatry, you will provide high quality Psychiatry management and consumer care across this hospital and health service as required. You will provide leadership in clinical services of Psychiatry that is innovative, encourages participation in treatment, and care aimed at achieving demonstrable improvement in patient outcomes. The role will work collaboratively with other clinicians and leaders to provide multidisciplinary consideration of needs. You will be responsible for the provision of Neurostimulation (ECT) if required and the provision of supervision for training Registrars.

There are 1.6FTE Consultants in the part-time role and 2FTE Consultants in the full-time position, with both locations consisting of a 24-bed (20 open and 4 locked) Inpatient Unit. Both positions are well supported by Registrars, PHOs and JHOs. On-call is performed on a rotational basis (around 1 in 20), 24 hours at a time and will not be an onerous commitment.

The expanded Health Service, incorporating the University Hospital, will have the capacity to meet the growing health care needs of the local communities. The Service is a multi-campus health service and employees may be required to work across various locations as required.

Essential Criteria

Australia/NZ: Must hold FRANZCP and be eligible for Specialist registration with AHPRA

UK/Ireland: Must hold MRCPsych / FRCPsych plus UK Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) and have been practicing as a Consultant for 3 years or more

USA: Must hold Certificate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and have been practicing as a Consultant for 3 years or more

Canada: Must hold Fellowship in Psychiatry or Certificate in Psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and have been practicing as a Consultant for 3 years or more.

Other qualifications can of course be assessed on a case-by-case basis. For those unable to work at Consultant level, there are multiple opportunities to take advantage of at Senior Medical Officer and Registrar level.
