Wavelength is currently seeking a Consultant Medical Oncologist to provide high quality care to in-patients and out-patients of the community who access the hospital department’s Cancer Care Services. You will be supported in a close-knit team with 3 Staff Specialists and junior doctors. You will have a strong commitment to education and training of junior staff as well as exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills to contribute to this team environment.
The hospital is a modern facility with approximately 130 beds and provides accident and emergency, general medicine, surgery, gynaecological, intensive care, paediatric, renal, orthopaedic and palliative care services. The 24-hour emergency department sees 38,000 presentations per year, 20 percent are paediatric, 40 percent of which are over the age of 60 and 15 – 20 percent of which are admitted acutely. The hospital is also home to the state’s rural clinical school and boasts lower student to teacher ratios, increased ‘scrub ins’ and highly values the presence of the students.
With a population of approximately 63,000 residents, this coastal town has safe sheltered waters making it an aquatic paradise, perfect for year-round swimming, diving, sailing, water sports and fishing. There is a significant range of educational choices for all levels, including public and private institutions and a university campus. In addition, there is a large range of different housing options, from beach-side cottages and units to hinterland acreages, and the area has a healthy real estate market with affordable housing and rental prices. Dotted along the esplanade are cosmopolitan and alfresco cafes, shops, parklands, picnic areas, playgrounds, piers and a vibrant marina so you will always have plenty to explore and enjoy during your time off.
To be successful in applying for this role you will hold fellowship of the Royal Australian of Physicians (RACP - Medical Oncology) and be registered or be eligible for specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
