The Position

This is a fantastic opportunity for a Staff Specialist to take on the role of Clinical Director. The position will be split between 0.4FTE managerial responsibilities with 0.6FTE for clinical duties. You will provide specialist clinical services for optimal patient outcomes including education and training of medical and nursing staff, and you will provide contemporary clinical management and a modern approach to the assessment and management of a broad range of health related conditions within psychiatry. A level 2 management allowance is provided as part of the Staff Specialist award, and you will have plenty of opportunities for service planning.

The Psychiatry Unit has 30 General Adult beds as well as a regional rehab unit onsite, servicing a population of 120,000. There are also 2 outpatient clinics serviced once every 2 weeks. This hospital delivers ECT for the district, and the department is well supported with 7 Registrars currently, potentially increasing to 8. On offer is a generous salary package as well as relocation assistance.

The Service

You will be joining a 250-bed acute regional hospital, with an expansion well underway at a cost of more than $190 million. This hospital provides the majority of specialist medical and surgical services for the broader network and is linked with the main University for the region, with research collaborations as well as a rural clinical school onsite with medical students practising psychiatry attachments. This service has a very proactive approach in the mental health space in working with Aboriginal populations and as Clinical Director you will working closely with these individuals.

Situated half-way between Sydney and Brisbane, you will be based in wonderland of natural attractions including ancient rainforests, a pristine marine park and variety of gorgeous beaches. There are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy with your time off such as kayaking, surfing and mountain biking, or discover a variety of spectacular lookouts throughout hiking trails. There’s a fantastic strip of restaurants and cafes for you to sample close to the heritage-listed jetty, or you can pack a lunch to relax and unwind with a picnic. This city offers a more relaxed pace of life while still having close access to a town centre and shopping options, as well as a local airport with direct flights to Sydney and Brisbane five days a week, and Melbourne four days a week.

Essential Criteria

Australia/NZ: Must hold FRANZCP and be eligible for Specialist registration with AHPRA.

UK/Ireland: Must hold MRCPsych/FRCPsych plus UK Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT/CCST) and have been practicing as a Consultant for 3 years or more.

USA: Must hold Certificate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and have been practicing as a Consultant for 3 years or more.

Canada: Must hold Fellowship in Psychiatry or Certificate in Psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and have been practicing as a Consultant for 3 years or more.
