With surgical advancements taking place all around the world, the number of people opting for or needing emergency surgery is increasing year on year. Wavelength has been focused on finding the most rewarding Surgery jobs for our doctors with established and trusted relationships in both public and private hospitals across Australia and New Zealand. We often work on an exclusive basis to source in-demand Surgeons from all surgical specialties.
Not only is the number of surgical procedures increasing across Australia and New Zealand in metropolitan areas, but we are also seeing more surgical operations happening in regional and remote areas. This is due to an increase in patient demand but also improvements in hospital facilities.
Surgical jobs within these hospitals are appealing to General Surgeons who are looking for interesting work opportunities but also a better quality of life for themselves and their families.
While most of our roles are for General Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery and Otolaryngology head and neck surgery (ENT), we also receive requests within the subspecialties of Neurosurgery, Urology and Vascular Surgery. We currently have an increase in demand for locum Surgeons in particular for ENT, Orthopaedics, Neurology and Plastic surgery.
Locum General Surgeons and those with subspecialties can expect to earn from $1,800 to $3,000 per day and Orthopaedic Surgeons from $2,000 to $3,000 per day.
The earning potential of permanent General Surgeons and those with subspecialties range from $270,000 to $400,000 per year. Junior and middle-grade Surgeons can expect to earn between $85,000 to $150,000 per year.
From 1 July 2014, specialist international medical graduates (IMGs) who wish to practice Surgery in Australia must apply directly to the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) for an assessment of their comparability to an Australian trained specialist in the specialty rather than via the Australian Medical Council.
