Obstetrics & Gynaecology

Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G) is often described as the specialty that offers a bit of everything, from surgery to general medicine, endocrinology and neonatal paediatrics, to oncology and medical imaging skills.

In recent times, a number of O&G subspecialties have emerged offering a wealth of diverse, interesting and challenging career opportunities.

The area of women’s health is both fascinating and rewarding and Wavelength has been privileged to work with Obstetrics and Gynaecology specialists across Australia and New Zealand for almost 20 years.

We regularly offer both permanent and locum roles in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Specialist Obstetrics and Gynaecology and across subspecialties. Whilst we have seen an increase in the number of subspecialist roles in the last few years, general O&G specialists who can cover high-risk Obstetrics and ultrasound are in high demand.

The demand for locums has also increased across Australia and New Zealand, particularly in regional and rural areas. We find many Locum doctors enjoy the flexibility of Locum work which can allow them to assist the Royal Flying Doctor service participating in outreach clinics or in remote settings with indigenous communities.

In terms of remuneration, locum O&G Consultants can expect $2,000 per day or more depending on timing and location. Permanent Obstetrics and Gynaecology Specialists can expect to earn between $250,000 to $450,000 per year with Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) O&G specialists earning in excess of $500,000 per year.

Locum O&G consultants must be a Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) Fellow who remains active and is participating in the RANZCOG CPD program.

“Having commenced O&G locum work this year, I was in need of guidance. Amber has certainly provided that. She has organised enjoyable and suitable positions for me. In conjunction with her team, she has done all the administrative work, and has very much been there for backup (even phoning me on a weekend in rural Victoria to check on our accomodation). It is always a pleasure dealing with Amber.”

“Wavelength was among the first locum agencies with which I registered when I retired from private practice. I met Amber Derby-Davis at this time and established a wonderful and efficient working relationship.  A personal phone call when a suitable job presents is one of her many special attributes.  A Wavelength locum never disappoints.”
