What qualifications do you need to work as a Psychiatrist in Australia and New Zealand?
The specialist qualification in Australia and New Zealand is Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP). You can compare your training program to the RANZCP training program to see if it is comparable in terms of content, duration, governance and assessment. If so, it may be worth you applying for Specialist Assessment in Australia or Vocational registration in New Zealand.
International Psychiatry qualifications that are often deemed comparable include:
- UK/Ireland – MRCPsych combined with the CCT (or CCST or JCHMT as appropriate)
- Canada – Fellowship in Psychiatry or Certificate in Psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Canada
- USA – Certificate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology
