From 1 July 2025, income thresholds for Australia’s skilled visa programs will rise by 4.6%, reflecting changes to the Average Weekly Ordinary Time Earnings (AWOTE). This annual adjustment is part of the federal government’s commitment to ensure skilled migrant workers are paid fairly, in line with Australian wage trends, and to help protect local labour market standards.
Effective 1 July 2025, the following thresholds will apply to new nomination applications:
1. Core Skills Income Threshold (CSIT): Increasing from AUD 73,150 to AUD 76,515
Applies to the Skills in Demand (subclass 482) and Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186)
2. Specialist Skills Income Threshold (SSIT): Increasing from AUD 135,000 to AUD 141,210
Applies to the Specialist Skills stream of the Skills in Demand (subclass 482) visa
3. Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT): Increasing from AUD 73,150 to AUD 76,515
Applies to the Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (subclass 494) and Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (subclass 187)
These changes mean that ALL new nomination applications from 1 July 2025 must meet or exceed the updated threshold or the Annual Market Salary Rate (AMSR), whichever is higher.
Importantly, these adjustments will not apply to existing visa holders or to nominations lodged before 1 July 2025.
