About Us

Who we are

Dr John Bethell and Claire Ponsford founded Wavelength almost 20 years ago. Their vision was to create a different type of medical recruitment company, one that truly cared about its employees, who in turn would truly care about the service delivered to candidates and clients.

From humble beginnings, Wavelength has grown to become the largest medical recruitment company in Australia, employing 70 people and making over 2,000 placements a year.

During this time we’ve evolved considerably, but what’s remained constant is our emphasis on service. We are focused on going ‘above and beyond’ in everything we do. Our emphasis is on matching the right person for the job, not just any job.

We make sure we determine and meet the exact requirements of both our doctors and healthcare employers.

We are proud that 97% of our doctors would recommend our service to others and many of the doctors and healthcare employers who partnered with us in the beginning still work with us today.

Central to achieving this is having recruiters who are experienced and experts in their field. We are known in the industry for recruiting the ‘best’ consultants, over a third of our recruiters have been with us for over five years.

Working in the healthcare sector the whole Wavelength team feels a connection to the broader impact of what we do. Without our services many regional and regional communities would be without adequate medical care, this gives a sense of pride and purpose to everyone that works with us.

Supporting our healthcare partners

Wavelength is proud to partner with organisations that align with our values and expertise and who are making a real difference in the healthcare sector, both in Australia and overseas.

We actively donate and fundraise for the Fred Hollows foundation, Médecins Sans Frontières and Heartfelt Homes. We also sponsor indigenous medical students through UNSW Medicine.

The Fred Hollows Foundation

The Fred Hollows Foundation is an aid organisation dedicated to facilitating eye care with a focus on cataract treatment. Wavelength is a founding member of the Fred Hollows 'Miracle Club', providing long term sponsorship commitments which provide security of funds.

Wavelength also takes part in events the foundation runs. In 2015 eight Wavelength staff took part in the 55km Coastrek challenge. Over $5500 was raised which meant funds from this event alone went towards saving the sight of 220 people (it is calculated to cost just $25 to save someone's sight in the developing world).

Médecins Sans Frontières

Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) sends volunteers, doctors, surgeons, nurses, psychologists, anaesthetists, engineers and logistics staff to where they are most needed.

Wavelength sponsors Médecins Sans Frontières and makes quarterly corporate donations to support the work volunteers and medical professionals undertake in countries suffering from devastation. Wavelength also provides help in securing doctors to provide on-the-ground assistance.

Heartfelt Homes

Heartfelt homes is a not-for-profit charity providing short term accommodation near a hospital for a family in urgent need. Caroline Meehan, based on the Gold Coast, set up the charity 2014.

Wavelength founder Claire Ponsford was impressed by Caroline's energy and drive in setting up Heartfelt Homes, which has yet to receive the awareness or corporate sponsorship of many larger charities and Wavelength is very proud to be a sponsor and support fundraising activities.

UNSW School of Medicine Indigenous Travel Scholarship

In partnership with the University of New South Wales (UNSW) School of Medicine, Wavelength believes it's important to support and help promote a career in medicine to indigenous high school students. That’s why we launched the annual Wavelength Indigenous Travel Scholarship.

This scholarship provides UNSW medical students outside of the Sydney Metropolitan area with the funds to travel back to their indigenous community during the academic year and address their local community to encourage more students to consider career in medicine.
