== The Position == An opportunity exists to join two other skilled and motivated Paediatricians in a hospital that places children?s health at the forefront. You will enjoy a semi-autonomous role where you will be supported by a junior doctor and a visiting trainee intern, you will be given the tools to develop a greater community focused element to the role, working closely with the Child Development Team and developing close relationships with community providers. The department has excellent infrastructure to aid the provision of high quality healthcare; neonatal care is provided in a Level 1 unit and there is outstanding tertiary support for the majority of paediatric sub-specialties within 3 hours drive. The Hospital The hospital comprises 133 beds and is considered to be a small provincial hospital which provides a range of inpatient, outpatient and community secondary services to around 55,000 people. Main service components include Surgical, Medicalm Paediatric, Aged Care, Maternal, Mental Health and District Nursing. The hospital is due to go through a redevelopment which includes a new outpatient area, Emergency Department, cafeteria and front foyer.   The hospital experience a very low turnover of staff, this is testament to the family friendly, supportive environment that leads to so many doctors staying for long periods of time. Current staff also report that it is a good-sized hospital that lends itself as a lower key, easy going environment. == The Location == This major port city is 2 hours equal distance between the University towns of Christchurch and Dunedin. From this wonderful location, you are able to look East over Caroline Bay and the South Pacific to snow-capped mountains and follow them with the eye all the way to Mount Cook, New Zealand?s Highest Mountain.
